Jacareuba

orginates from the forests that grow in the Amazon region of Brazil

Jacareuba

Source

Jacareuba is available in the forests of Precious Woods, located in the Amazon region of Brazil. The trees attain diameter till 150 cm and heights up 50 m. The sapwood is a few cm wide. The trunk has a straight shape. It is possible to produce larger dimensions in sawn wood.

Appearance

The heartwood is pinkish beige with small darker veins. The sapwood is easy to distinguish. The grain is curved and often interlocked. The texture is medium coarse. Jacareuba – also known as SantaMaria – is mentioned in the list for certified joinery in the Netherlands (KOMO).

Processing properties

Machining can be done easily, resulting in a rather smooth surface (also interlocked grain). Finishing and gluing are reported to be good. As a result of the approval for certified joinery, the gluing and finishing are extensively tested. Pre-drilling is recommended. Jacareuba has a tendency to split. Drying must be done with care to avoid checking and deformation.

Application

Jacareuba can be used for applications like cladding, window frames and doors.  It is also used for exterior furniture like park benches.
